Even though it may seem like espresso has forever been made by machine that's probably because we don't know any other way. However, some time before there have been machines to accomplish the work for us, people from the southern part of Europe, Milan, and Croatia, began generating espresso the moment they discovered how. It had not been prior to the mid 40's that folks and shops throughout began employing espresso equipment to produce it, at least in America.

However, espresso equipment was common in Europe long before the devices were for sale in the U.S. Surprisingly the 1st espresso machine arrived there a few CENTURIES before the it was seen in the U.S. The tale goes, a man named Louis Bernard Babaut conceived a decent design for the espresso machine in the early 1800s. With his friend Santais, who was mainly responsible for the advertising and marketing, they made the first successful espresso machine.

As you may imagine, the actual machine wasn't ideal and still needed a competent skilled person to work with the idea (debatably still a problem today if you're an espresso aficionado). Still this thought does not diminish his accomplishment. The machine spit out espresso refreshment just as speedy as it could be consumed.  Legend has it this first espresso machine could dole out one thousand shots of espresso an hour. Amazing!

Later, Luigi Bezzera created his own machine called the"Voila" espresso coffee machine. He lacked the skills to market the device however and sold it to Desidero Pavoni. With proper marketing the machine was also a success.

If you're thinking of the automatic espresso machine this introduced later in the first half of the 19th century. An man known as Franceso Illy actually used compressed air to make the whole espresso-making process faster!

There you have it: everything you have ever wanted to know about the origins of espresso machines! They are very popular in the United States and all over the world today and created by espresso fans like us!
